Cuban Hogfish, Bodianus pulchellus, at the UF/IFAS Indian River Research & Education Center have spawned about 40 times this year!A couple of populations have settled, and currently one population has adult coloration forming and another is close behind. Around 77 days post hatch (DPH) juveniles begin to develop adult coloration, but in purple at first rather than red.

In the photo you can see the bicolor pattern starting to develop. This juvenile is 74 DPH and approximately 21.2 mm.
